Inspired by movies like "The Giant Behemoth" and "Gojira", I have always wanted to come up with my own classic creation. I get tired of the kaiju with their extreme power and abilities, so I decided to tone things down, and make them simple again. It is obviously inspired by lake monsters, most notably Scandinavian myths. It's name is going to be Soheran (Norwegian: Sjoherren is a combination of Sjo and Herren for "lake-god") or Durontus (just because I like how it sounds.) I also have a mini script written out for a possible comic that I may storyboard, though I highly doubt in time for GFest. I hope you enjoy this one, he's a child of my imagination and tons of research.
Story: In the wake of modern warnings to care of our planet, and moving towards a Green future, a small and secretive manufacturing company sits on the outskirts of a Norwegian village, pumping harmful chemicals into a nearby lake. Old Norse legends tell of serpents dwelling within these realms, enormous creatures that were to be both feared and respected. Perhaps one of these creatures still survived, giving rise to the numerous lake sightings over the past several hundred years. However, within these waters a tremendous accident occurred, a fluke in nature. The chemicals that normally deaden the land gave rise to something unexpected: life. Perhaps it was one of these serpents of old, or perhaps simply a fossil, but the chemicals reacted in a way no one could have predicted, forcing evolution to speed by at a blinding rate creating an all new, yet alien form of life. Lumbering out of the inland lake, SOHERAN (Durontus?) makes its way westward towards the Americas, its intent unclear.
Powers/Elements:
-122 Meters Tall -Can exhale a super-corrosive chemical gas that can dissolve materials at a subatomic level -Because of his mutation/evolution his body adapts to circumstance, reducing physical stress and trauma -Intense mutation caused bleached, wrinkly skin -Blue-grey sail shudders before when the monster is angry -shows signs of limited intelligence and reasoning, as well as efforts to communicate -uses long muscular neck and tail to thrash about, creating havoc -shares a strange link/animosity with the American chemical company that accidently created him
yeah! your ABSOLUTELY RIGHT..after all i've already saw KAIJUS and i realized that they've always have the same appearance and powers. but differs in form and structure-and their powers vary only in degree of force and impact- depends on what kind of monster it is.
I really want to balance the line between what most people call a "kaiju" and classic monster design... without going overboard. It's rough, and I don't want to consider myself doing "remakes" but rather... homages to the types of movies/monsters that got me to love the whole genre.
Mostly creative hurtles. I want to do a traditional kaiju story, on the surface, but with some original twist. Just haven't found a good enough one yet.
